Jodie Gale
Counsellor
For nearly 20 years I have worked in private psychotherapy practice with women who have suffered deep wounding due to early childhood emotional neglect and complex trauma.
For many of the women I have worked with, this has manifested in chronic low self worth and food, weight and body image concerns. My work in this field stemmed from my own early childhood trauma and subsequent addiction and eating disorder recovery.
I work from a transpersonal trauma perspective which means that I hold a holistic, soulful, positive and hopeful context for recovery and post-traumatic growth.
Alongside my private practice, my work experience includes working at Women’s Health NSW; the umbrella organisation for Leichardt Women’s Health Centre, Sydney Women’s Counselling, Waminda Aboriginal Health Centre and Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia (formerly Rape Crisis NSW), Riverglen Mental Health Unit and several inpatient and outpatient treatment centres for addiction, anxiety, depression and eating disorders.
Over the last 20 years I have trained extensively in developmental psychology, attachment theory, neuroscience, women's psychology and trauma informed practice.
Because I work from a relational and attachment perspective using the therapeutic relationship - the therapy is usually medium to long-term as we recover the split off and dissociated parts that had to go into hiding. Therapy is often weekly but some clients choose to come more than once a week.
My practice is from a home office in a very safe, quiet and leafy street.
I regularly participate in clinical supervision and postgraduate training, workshops and conferences for professional, personal and spiritual development. I am committed to my own self-care and the psychological safety and well-being of the women I work with.

Mr Josh Sasai
Social Worker
Hi, my name is Josh. I am specialised in working with clients with trauma (PTSD), anxiety, depression and chronic conditions by facilitating Body-Mind Processing practices. I use Buddhist Psychotherapy as my therapeutic framework. Buddhist Psychotherapy is a non-religious, brain-focused and compassion-oriented framework, which can combine evidence-based counselling methods with body-mind integrative practices for a restored sense of wellbeing. My practice focuses on the body’s innate wisdom to work out solutions to the presented issues, as well as working with emotions as the vehicles to connect body-and-mind.
I use a wide range of therapeutic approaches, depending on the needs of individual clients, including EMDR Therapy, Somatic Approach, Mindfulness, Focusing, Clinical Hypnosis, Meridian Tapping (EFT) and Body Movement (including Qigong). These body-oriented approaches are proven to be effective for stress reduction, emotion regulation and processing memories of trauma.
As a therapist, I believe that everybody has their own healing power within. I see my role as a therapist is to help you connect with your own inner wisdom by providing a safe empathetic space. I enjoy working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and LGTIQA+ community. I am originally from Kyoto, Japan where he learned the concepts of Mindfulness and Buddhist Psychology as a part of daily life.
I look forward to meeting you.

Ms Karen Towers
Counsellor
I’ve been working with children and teenagers for many years as a teacher, both in Australia and overseas. I’m now a counsellor/psychotherapist with experience in working with carers, in an alcohol and drug service and more recently with clients referred through job services, which has included many cases involving trauma. I am a trauma informed practitioner and utilise a range of modalities to tailor counselling sessions for the client. My clients report that they feel heard, understood and supported through whatever challenges they face, and when feeling overwhelmed, will never be pushed further than their limits. Complex trauma requires a long term approach to build rapport. Office space is available in 2 locations: Market St in Wollongong and in Thirroul. I work with victims of trauma as I appreciate their vulnerability and unlocked strength. Regular professional development in trauma informed practice is undertaken to keep up to date. Clients are often asked if my service is suitable, and if it doesn't ""feel right"" will be referred to another practitioner in the local area.

Mrs Katie Woodley-Smith
Counsellor
Before becoming a counsellor I worked as an Occupational Therapist, I found this work rewarding but not personal enough to be satisfying and I have been working as a counsellor for Relationships Australia since 2017. Originally I worked in a branch and did some outreach to South Hedland and Northam but for the last 18 months I have been working with people affected by the Disability Royal Commission, most of this work has centered around abuse and trauma. My clients have taught me much humility and I hope I understand that each person affected by trauma has different needs and sensitivities. I try and put my clients first and listen to what they need and how much they want to say. I understand that trauma is about healing the past and also the present and that experiences of trauma plays out in our current relationships. I am a big advocate in the healing power of soothing the nervous system and I try and help my clients access this resource in therapy and so they have this as a strategy between sessions. My private practice space is a small cozy office in Ardross, sessions go for 1 hour and I have current availability to take on new clients.

Katja Bulic
Psychologist
I am a Registered Psychologist and have worked in the specialised sexual assault service for the last 10 years using a whole range of person-centred counselling approaches to assist people who have experienced trauma. Assisting and witnessing survivors’ journey and strength through healing and empowerment is the most rewarding aspect of my role. Coming to see a sexual assault counsellor can be frightening for many people, which is why building a safe and trusting relationship with the counsellor is the most important part of the process. Counsellor can then assist the client to develop tools and strategies to manage difficult and painful emotions. To prevent emotional overwhelm, clients speak of the trauma only if they want to, when they have the right tools to and when they are ready. When clients choose to speak of the abuse, ten last minutes of the sessions are always left for grounding and assisting clients with the emotions which might be stirred during the session.
I have rooms in two counselling practices in Western Sydney, Constitution Hill and Windsor. I am a Medicare provider and have applied to become a Victims Services Counsellor. I am also aware of the services which can support clients between sessions.
Notes from the sessions are highly confidential and kept in a locked cabinet that no other person has access to.
One way of providing services my clients truly deserve is to keep updated with all the newest evidence based therapies and I am committed to this aspect of professional and personal growth.

Mr Lars Andersson
Counsellor
I have worked for over 30 years with clients who have experienced complex trauma of various kinds. I more or less stumbled into this field, after receiving training in REM therapy, an extremely effective, yet safe and non-distressing, approach to defusing the effects of trauma (similar to EMDR).
I have helped hundreds of both male and female clients overcome the post-traumatic suffering resulting from horrendous experiences such as rapes, violent attacks, car accidents, wartime battles, and childhood abuse of all kinds; emotional-psychological, physical, and sexual - suffered in private homes as well as in institutional environments.
It never ceases to amaze me how, with appropriate support in the form of efficient therapy techniques, the human mind can heal from events that no human being should ever really have to experience. And the healing is often much quicker than they would have ever imagined possible. Clients who have been incapacitated by the effects of what they experienced half a lifetime ago, have in the span of only a few weeks returned to fully functioning, finally free from suffering and/or shame.
If you are interested in knowing more details, I will be happy to share some of the specific clinical case examples (de-identified, of course) with you in conversation. It is in general something that I advice prospective clients to do; have a chat over the phone with the person you consider seeing for counselling/therapy, so you get a sense of what they are like to talk to. Counselling/therapy is a very personal journey, after all, and you will want to know that the person you consider seeing feels right, for you.
I can usually fit new clients in within a week or two - depending on which specific days you are able to come to see me. The work is typically done in 1-hour sessions, spaced out with one or two weeks between sessions, and often requires less than ten sessions, even for very traumatic experiences - yes, I know, it sounds almost too good to be true, but this time it is true, as many previous clients can confirm!
My clinic is located in a quiet suburban setting with good public transport access and plenty of parking in the street outside. The bottom floor of the building is taken up by my office and clinic, while the upper floor is my private space. So the clinic environment is very relaxed, confidential and safe, without disturbances or interruptions from any surrounding offices, receptions, other therapists or clients.
Coming from Sweden originally (half a lifetime ago), I am obviously fluent in Swedish as well as in English.
