Ms Gabrielle Howse

Psychologist
I am a psychologist and psychotherapist in private practice and have been working in the area of trauma and domestic violence for many years. My method of working with people is largely psychodynamic and humanistic in nature. I work with the unconscious processes that drive our behaviours from the inside. Those individuals who have a history of suffering with trauma or violence can often recognise repetitions of such distresses in their adult lives. I work to untangle these internal forces in a way that I would hope would offer relief and new possibilities.

Mr James Adsett

Psychologist
I have been a registered psychologist since 2006. I have worked in private practice for 12 years (part time) since then as well as 15 years in Therapeutic Communities(TCs). I also worked for Queensland Health AODS part time for 10 years. In terms of trauma I have been treating Complex PTSD since before I became a psychologist (since 2003), this was mainly in TC's where they take a holistic approach to treatment. I have extensive work with standard PTSD from private practice, initially using trauma focussed CBT/prolonged exposure.
I have been trained in Acceptance and Commitment therapy and other third wave CBT's, DBT, mindfulness based approaches etc. I am currently doing supervision to become a accredited practitioner in EMDR. (I did my advanced EMDR training two years ago and have been using it extensively since then).
My approach is relaxed and flexible to create a sense of safety. I believe that trauma processing needs to be done with a sense of choice, safety and empowerment. This can take a while, depending on many different things.
