Ms Rebecca Kouimanis

Psychologist
For the last ten years I have worked with clients who have a history of complex trauma, both within the child protection space providing clinical intervention to best support them and in private practice. I have extensive training in trauma, including: ACT for trauma, Trauma informed care, Blue Knot Foundation Treatment of Complex Trauma and Trauma Informed Care, Emotion Focused Couples Therapy and Trauma, Working with Shame, Certificate in Expressive Therapies plus full registration as a general psychologist. I chose to work in this field because I believe given the right space, everyone has the capacity to heal and live a life that is meaningful to them. I offer therapeutic services that are evidence-based approaches, like ACT, Expressive Therapies, Psycho-education, and Sensorimotor Approaches etc. from a relational attachment based framework. I am also part of a network of professionals so if the client is not able to benefit from what I can offer, I can seek a suitable alternative for them.
Cost is $150 per session; session times are 60 mins, if client wants to explore healing through expressive therapy session times are 1.5 hours, $190 per session. I am experienced in working with couples where a trauma history is present. Session times for couples are 1.5 hours at $190.00.
It is normal for clients to become overwhelmed during therapy. I always ensure clients set their own pace and when they become overwhelmed we will stop and go through a grounding and breathing process and I have on hand the use of weighted blankets and other comforts. The therapy space I offer is trauma informed. The client is in charge, they are the experts in their own recovery and I see my role to walk alongside offering a space and a framework that can facilitate this to occur. The experience I have ensures clients can expect to be held safely as they process their experiences. I believe given the right opportunity everyone has the capacity to heal from what they have experienced and connect into life in a way of their choosing.

Sarah Dillane

Counsellor
Since 2000, when I started as a counsellor, I have learnt some of the things that I can do to make counselling work for people who have survived experiences that have robbed them of a sense of safety and given them a good reason not to trust easily. I will do my best to respond to you in a way that asks you decide what is safe for you: timing, frequency, location of sessions; talking, being creative, being quiet, walking, taking a break, using symbols, making diagrams; what we talk about, how we manage difficult subjects.
I hope that you will ask me whatever you need to know about me to start towards building trust.
Counselling can be in a busy office in Penrith, a quiet studio attached to a private house, or professional rooms in Katoomba.

Mr Sudeva Hawkes

Counsellor
The two legs on which I stand and base my practice are my experience of life in the outside world and my expansion into mindfulness, meditation, and the inner world. I combine these two to offer my clients something rare, a real opportunity to find their own sense of direction in the company of a supportive ally.
Over more than 25 years, I have developed a variety of skills that enable me to offer each client a unique approach, tailored to their needs. I am an accredited Counsellor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. I have focused on Trauma Recovery and trained widely in the latest methods and approaches, keeping myself up to date with the latest approaches, such as NARM and Internal Family Systems. The emotional and psycho-emotional issues I have met in my clients and in working with domestic violence have deepened and developed my psychological understanding and my compassion.
In an environment that provides a sense of safety, stability and support, the nervous system can commence the healing process and the body can be encouraged to return to its natural self-regulation and balance. It is not necessary to dig deep into old wounds, retell the whole story or relive the entire event. My work is to gently support and guide you into an increased enjoyment of life and appreciation of all you feel and sense. Inner balance can be restored, vitality and resilience to stress increased and the capacity to fully engage in life can emerge.

In coping with trauma, our rational thinking brain becomes disconnected from the emotional and the primal areas of the brain. My intent is to support a gradual process of reconnection in which clients can come unstuck from dissociation and the fight, flight or freeze response. The brain can then build new and positive neural pathways to enable lasting change and reconnection with the world around.

You can learn more on the website, where you will find the practical details such as fee structure. Most of my work is on Zoom and clients tell me it is easy to feel my presence and connect with me online. I also see people face to face in the Albany area. I always meet my clients for a free intake talk of around thirty minutes to ensure we are a good fit for each other before commencing therapy.
