Mr Sean Cuthbert

Psychologist
Seeking out professional help can seem like a big step. The impact of challenging life experiences can feel overwhelming, and you reach a point where you're faced with a clear choice: continue on struggling, or deal with what’s going on, and find a way forward. When you're ready, it's important to seek out a professional who is specially trained and experienced in working with complex issues. Someone who ""gets"" you, sees the big picture, and the links between what’s happened to you, how you're feeling, and common consequences that can include worry, shame, rocky relationships, addictions, drug and alcohol use, and even violence.

I specialise in the treatment of life's big challenges: complex trauma/PTSD, addictions, drug and alcohol use, anxiety, anger, and depression. Maybe you've been in ""talk therapy"" and nothing changed. The therapies I use are cutting-edge, evidence-based, and experiential: Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, EMDR, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

It takes courage to look at yourself and realise, ""I want to do things differently - for myself, my partner, my kids."" As a professional, I am committed to working as hard as you do. I work from your goals, but am directive and practical in getting you there. You can contact me or book online to start the process of working on creating lasting change.

Mr Simon Brown

Counsellor
I am a registered Clinical Counsellor providing a range of trauma-specific and trauma-related treatments.
My clinical experience includes twelve years working with many people across community, forensic and private practice settings. Many of the people that I have encountered experienced problems stemming from past experiences of trauma and abuse, contributing to distress, problems in living and difficulty relating to loved ones. To enhance my skills, I have completed specific training in working with post-traumatic stress disorders and complex trauma encompassing CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approaches.

Seeing a counsellor can be anxiety provoking and so in my practice I always try to create a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment. This means working closely with the other person to ensure that what we do together matches their needs on that day. Talking about trauma always has the potential to be distressing and sessions are structured to allow for grounding, calming and other skills to be practised. This gives people a chance to manage potential distress that might arise in therapy and develop the skills in a safe and contained way.

Sometimes, as a result of trauma, people can end up on a trajectory to making choices they regret or coping in a way that is unhelpful. In order to address some of these potential outcomes, I take a non-judgemental and accepting approach. I work within a safe, welcoming clinic staffed by friendly and professional clinicians.

Sessions are approximately an hour in duration and we will develop a treatment plan based on your goals for therapy. Treatment options will be provided, and we will aim to measure change in a meaningful way. There is no one goal or outcome that fits everyone, and the pace of change can vary.

If you have any questions about treatment which would like answered before considering what you would like to do, please feel free to contact me via the clinic. Inquiries can be made by email: [email protected] or by phone: 03 9434 4161.
