Professional Biography

I am a UK-trained Psychologist with dual registration to practise in Australia & UK. With a career in mental health spanning over 26 years, I have worked in a variety of mental health settings including the National Health Service, education, and the voluntary sector. I have worked in various roles as a psychologist/psychotherapist, consultant, trainer, coach, researcher and manager of a university counselling service.

I have worked as a Psychologist for over 11 years and been trained in the following therapy approaches:
• Psychodynamic therapy
• Cognitive-Behaviour therapy
• Person-centred therapy
• Acceptance & Commitment therapy
• Compassion-focused therapy

Viewing every client as a unique individual with specific needs and life experiences, I integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches to best suit individuals’ needs. In terms of my therapy style, I aspire to embody warmth, empathy, authenticity, integrity and compassion in the therapy space, and provide a safe, warm and confidential space for clients to explore their feelings. I also like to work collaboratively with clients, instilling hope, and empowering them to make significant changes that will lead to a more fulfilled and authentic life.

Moreover, I have extensive experience in supporting individuals with a range of psychological issues including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, stress, mood instability, psychosis, eating disorders, substance abuse, trauma, domestic violence, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, suicide, self-harm and bereavement/loss.

Having worked in several universities in the UK and Australia for the past 15 years, my area of specialty is student mental health, and in particular my research area of interest is student suicide. I completed doctoral research on student suicide, and my work was published in the University and College Counselling Journal for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (2021). I continue to raise awareness of suicidality in the higher education sector through offering consultancy and training on student suicidality to universities and other organisations.

I currently manage my own private practice in Brisbane (consulting rooms in South Brisbane, 4101 & Mount Crosby 4306), offering psychological treatment to adults, including university students, and consultancy and training on student suicidality to universities.
