As a Clinical Psychologist & Analytic Psychotherapist, my approach to therapy is integrative, drawing from a variety of clinical theory, techniques, and empirical research. My focus for longer-term work is on the connection between our psychological difficulties in adulthood and our unresolved or unsatisfactory experiences in early life which we are often not aware of, and which are re-triggered by distress associated with current life difficulties and symptoms. I use Psychodynamic therapy to assist people with a range of difficulties that have not responded to other forms of treatment, such as medication or cognitive behaviour therapy. For short-term treatment I use approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Trauma informed therapy and Mindfulness based interventions which synthesize eastern wisdom with western intellectual rigour.

Jennifer Clairfayt
Mental Health Nurse
I am a Credentialed MH Nurse with a passion for working with people who are survivors of severe trauma.
Qualifications include
Masters in MH Nursing
Post Grad Diploma in Counselling
Advanced Mindfulness Meditation Certification
Medical Hypnotherapy Diploma
EMDR practitioner (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) which is a technique recommended by the World Health Organisation for PTSD
I became a MH Nurse about 30 years ago and noticed that nearly every client with supposed ‘mental illness’ was a survivor of childhood abuse. I have been searching for trauma informed care ever since. To this end I attended University where I focused my study, as much as possible, around complex trauma. I have continued my learning by attending many, many workshops and courses, learning as much as I can about the effects and treatment for trauma - also buying many books.
A few years ago, I chose to gain experience with survivors of trauma by working in the Trauma Unit at Belmont Hospital in Brisbane (led by Dr Warwick Middleton), with people who are severely traumatised by childhood abuse, and almost all with diagnosed DID. This was invaluable experience witnessing the real issues survivors face on a day to day basis.
I have been to US to learn Rapid Resolution Therapy, which includes hypnotherapy and NLP techniques - many of my clients have found this technique ‘painless’ and very beneficial. This technique does not require people relive their traumatic experiences
I studied Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and became particularly interested in the mindfulness component which I pursued by becoming an Advanced Mindfulness Meditation Instructor - mindfulness and meditation are really useful for people needing to feel more ‘grounded’, and to establish a ‘safe place’ in their mind. I presently lead Guided Mindfulness Meditation groups with clients who report the calming effects and increased sense of wellbeing from this practice.
More recently I have become a practitioner in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) which is recognised by World Health Organisation as the 'go to' treatment of PTSD and trauma
