Professional Biography

Since 2009, in both private practice, and in public health, I have worked continuously with individuals who have been survivors of abuse in institutional care. These people have suffered as their trauma includes sexual, physical and psychological abuse. This work was in Bendigo and in the Wimmera / Mallee region in country Victoria. In my Bendigo practice, I received numerous referrals from the Open Place organisation based in Melbourne, between 2009 and 2018.
In July 2018, I have relocated to the Sunshine Coast QLD, and just recently set up a private practice at Mooloolaba. I am no accepting new referrals and no waiting period applies. For those with a mental health care plan from their GP, I am able to bulk bill as appropriate. Presently, I have no waiting list and so can see clients within days. I also provide after hours and Saturday appointments by arrangement.
In addition to treating survivors of institutional care, I have also work with many police, emergency workers, soldiers and others, who have been affected by trauma and confronting life experiences in their workplaces. Furthermore, there has also been other individuals affected by trauma, including family members dealing with suicide of a loved one, people dealing with bullying, victims of crime, and more.
My training in trauma has included attendance at many workshops, MHPN webinars, reading and further study and training related to how the brain is effected by trauma, but developmentally, and for adults. I am also a member of the APS 'Trauma and Psychology' Interest Group, so I keep an eye out for further training and seminars as they become available, as well as often discuss trauma topics in my regular supervision sessions.
My office is a private place where safety and privacy are ensured and valued. In any case, my therapeutic style is gentle, calm and respectful and accordingly, most of my trauma clients both improve and value the work they do with me.
Finally, my treatment methods are tailored to meet the needs and consent of my client. Exposure work and systematic desensitization will be used, if and when a client is ready to do so. Otherwise, my work would include a combination of narrative therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness, meditation, imagery and hypnosis (when safe to do so), some CBT and more preferably, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
