Professional Biography

The Centre Against Sexual Violence Inc. (CASV) provides counselling and support to women who have been impacted by sexual violence and who reside in the Logan, Redlands and Beaudesert regions. The CASV also supports women to access the National Redress Scheme and can provide Counselling and Psychological Care to women who have accepted an offer of redress.

I have been employed at the CASV since 2012. I have provided counselling and support to people impacted by sexual violence at any time during their lives. I have had a special interest is supporting people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse. This work has included supporting people affected by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and supporting people to engage in the National Redress Scheme. Before I started working at CASV, I worked with survivors of institutional child sexual abuse in other not-for-profit organisations. I also worked as a psychologist in private practice.

CASV is a safe space for women to heal. My clients are always telling me that they feel safe when they come to CASV. I work collaboratively with women at their pace. My work is guided by trauma-informed principles of support, safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment. I work with women to understand their counselling needs and tailor my counselling to the individual person. I am also open to any feedback from my clients and peers.

At CASV, we are supported to attend regular professional development. I incorporate a range of treatment approaches into my work including mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic trauma therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy and creative therapies. Some of the reasons women engage in counselling with me include assisting in emotional regulation, learning how to manage re-experiencing symptoms, improving self-care, increasing self-esteem, processing past trauma, increasing their quality of life, improving relationship skills, developing and maintaining boundaries, increasing assertiveness skills and protective behaviours. You may have other things that you would like to work on in counselling.

Sometimes the CASV has a short waitlist and this will always be communicated to you when you call to enquire about services. You are welcome to contact me at any time if you have any questions about coming to CASV for counselling.
