Professional Biography

I have provided trauma-informed psychological treatment for adults for over 33 years and have been in private practice in Bondi Junction for 21 years. Ensuring therapy is safe, supportive, reliable, consistent and collaborative is always the priority.

My special area of expertise is treating adults who were traumatized during childhood by sexual, emotional and physical abuse (as well as neglect and other kinds of chronic distress and unhappiness.) Therapy also addresses the many ways childhood trauma can manifest in adult life. This includes problems such as depression, anxiety, addictions and relationship difficulties.

My main treatment modality is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, which offers patients an opportunity to build deep trust and resolve long-standing complex trauma and unhappiness. For severe anxiety and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) can be integrated. For people who want help with many complex issues, I can offer stable, long-term therapy.

In addition to seeing patients, I have had extensive involvement in the training of other health professionals, promoting knowledge and expertise around helping people recover from childhood trauma and abuse. I was a lecturer at Macquarie University for 12 years and am currently a guest lecturer at the University of Western Sydney. Over the past 17 years, I have also provided clinical supervision and training for health professionals at Royal North Shore, Bankstown, Liverpool, St Vincent’s, Royal Prince Alfred and St John of God Hospitals, as well as NSW South Eastern Sydney Area Drug and Alcohol Services. Since 2010 I have been a consultant to The Psychology Team at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network Cardiac Service, helping to further our understanding and treatment of childhood medical trauma and its impact on families.

I believe that, as a community and as health professionals, we must expand and share our understanding of the impacts of childhood trauma and abuse.
