Professional Biography
Dr Mary Asic-Kobe is a Clinical Psychologist, and completed her Doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology at QUT. Prior to establishing Restore Psychology, Mary worked at a non-profit community organisation in the Logan area for more than 12 years, during which she treated numerous clients who had experienced trauma and loss. She has also managed a range of government funded programs including a Torture and Trauma Counselling Service for resettled refugees experiencing symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress and adjustment difficulties. Her roles have included adapting evidence-based treatments, providing individual and group therapy, training and supervising staff and students, contract management and program evaluation.
Mary’s therapeutic approach stems across a range of theoretical perspectives and evidence-based approaches including: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Person Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, EMDR and Schema Therapy. Her extensive experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds has enhanced her skills in adapting evidence based treatments to reflect the individual needs, perspectives, and desired outcomes of her clients.
Her areas of interest include anxiety, trauma and complex trauma, depression, grief & loss and adjustment difficulties among other clinical issues. More broadly, Mary is strongly focused on working with her clients to improve their Quality of Life. Her approach toward her clients is distinguished by active interest, empathy, honesty, collaboration, and clear communication about treatment aims and progress.
She is committed to improving her performance through client feedback, monitoring outcomes and self-evaluation; all which are important aspects of facilitating positive change. Mary acknowledges that lasting changed is best achieved through active collaboration and engagement with GP’s, Psychiatrists, other health professionals, family and community supports.
