Professional Biography
Martine is a Registered Mental Health Social Worker and Psychotherapist with extensive experience in working with complex trauma and PTSD, having worked across both the public mental health system and in private practice. Martine has worked in the WA statewide child sexual abuse therapy service working with families with generational sexual abuse. Martine’s also works in the Public Mental health system and specialises in complex trauma presentations.
Martine has broad experience providing trauma-informed therapy to trauma survivors. Martine has specialised training in a range of therapeutic modalities which include, specialised trauma approaches, psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal therapy, attachment theory, child and adolescent psychotherapy, family and couples therapy. Martine has completed extensive training at The Boston Trauma Centre world leader in Trauma research and recovery.
Martine developed a Private Practice to focus on trauma focussed therapy as she found that trauma survivors require an opportunity for longer term therapy in the context of a safe therapeutic relationship where sharing the trauma narrative was not the main focus of the therapy. Martine recognises that the choice to confront the past rests with the survivor, as therapist she plays the role of a witness and ally, providing a safe space to explore a clients own experience safely. Martine offers individual appointments or is available to work in dyads or family focussed work. Martine reserves her caseload for working with complex trauma and has developed her private practice to focus on providing therapy and Trauma Sensitive Yoga as a group program for survivors of trauma that has occurred in the context of relationship. Trauma Sensitive yoga is a protocol developed at The Boston Trauma Centre and is an evidence based trauma treatment created by leading trauma experts.
As a clinician who works in the field of trauma Martine maintains self care by a rigorous practice of peer and clinical supervision, engaging in mindfulness and meditation practices and maintaining a good work/life balance. Martine is acutely aware of the elements that create burnout and vicarious trauma and self assesses on a regular basis and ensures that a self care practice is maintained.
Martine's work remains trauma informed by constant monitoring of the way that she establishes a connection with clients, supports them to access her therapy services, by keeping engaged with best practice, by use of language and presentation and mostly by not assuming the role of expert in the trauma therapy.
