Professional Biography
Dr Jan Heath is a nationally registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. She holds endorsed registration as a Forensic and Clinical Psychologist and is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society.
Jan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Social Science) and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied Psychology both from Monash. She also holds a Master of Psychology (Counselling) from Monash wherein her thesis focused on Emotional Intelligence and holds a Master of Terrorism and Security Studies.
Jan has a Doctor of Psychology (Forensic) from Charles Sturt University. Her dissertation focused on child sexual abuse. The title of her dissertation was, Extrafamilial child sexual abuse: An examination of police briefs of evidence to explore associations between perpetrator, victim and offence characteristics. A subsection of this study was delivered by Jan at the joint Australian and New Zealand Psychological Societies Conference in Auckland.
Jan has worked in private practice for over twenty-five years. She treats psychological conditions such as PTSD, DID, depression, anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, drug and alcohol abuse, internet addiction, gambling, relationship issues and personal development such as self esteem and self image issues. She has held positions in academia, corrections and welfare. Her forensic experience and work includes, but is not limited to, victims of crime, victims of adult and child sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, trauma, domestic violence and offending. She provides medico-legal reports for the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal, TAC, Workcover, Family Court and medico-legal counsel in relation to criminal offending. She has given evidence in the Children’s Court, Magistrate’s Court, Supreme Court and Coroner’s Court.
