Professional Biography
Fiona has been working in the helping industry for over 20 years. She has graduated with Bachelor of Social Science, Graduate Diploma in Counselling and a Masters in Social Work. Initially most of Fiona's career was working with vulnerable families and young people, alcohol and other drugs and homelessness. Over the years, and experiencing other approaches such as yoga teaching and yoga therapy, Fiona discovered Trauma Sensitive Yoga and this made a significant impact in her work and how she was able to understand the long standing impacts of trauma on a person. Fiona went on to develop small groups in a mindful movement approach, using movement and noticing as an approach to teaching ourselves how to ""notice"" uncomfortable sensations in the body and then how we can gently adapt and self regulate to manage these automatic responses as a result of trauma. Fiona has worked with groups who are part of the Forgotten Children. This experience taught Fiona a great deal in learning about peoples personal challenges and how the experience of trauma has made long lasting impacts. Together we worked at peoples own pace, offering choice, developing trust and safety, to support peoples individual changes in self regulating and starting to choose options that were providing positive outcomes. Fiona offers many approaches from listening, CBT, mindfulness and movement to support the person in how they would like to progress in receiving the support they need.
