Professional Biography

Psychotherapy with me follows a trauma framework, meaning the work begins slowly, building a sense of trust and safety both within the room and for you between sessions (usually weekly). I am guided by your readiness to address the tough stuff and then encourage just a little at a time, minimising the possibility of becoming overwhelmed. Grounding, tapping and mindfulness strategies introduced early in the therapy are excellent tools to draw upon if overwhelm does occur.

I have worked with adults and couples with histories of childhood trauma for nearly 10 years. I initially found that for most of my clients, signs of trauma were evidenced often before the person mentioned any history of it. Quite a few people did not conceptualise their experiences as traumatic however the impact of the experiences certainly did reflect trauma. I became deeply interested in complex trauma and the physical, relational, psychological, social etc effects it has on a person many years later. I have a further interest in how faith is impacted by trauma and furthermore, how it can be woven into daily life as a valuable source of support and strength. I have been (& continue to be) generously educated by the people I've worked with as well as through post graduate studies, ongoing professional development and supervision with trauma experts.

I feel privileged to work alongside brave survivors as we walk a path together that leads to healing and growth.

I am an approved NSW Victims of Crime Counsellor. If you have been a victim of a crime in NSW you can apply for free counselling at https://www.victimsservices.justice.nsw.gov.au/
