Professional Biography

Adam Lo is an Occupational Therapist and Senior Mental Health Clinician working in the public Child and Youth Mental Health Service in Metro South Health. Adam uses group therapy, creative arts, family therapy and other psychotherapeutic approaches such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy, mentalisation-based therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy in his work with children, young people and their families. Apart from his training as an occupational therapist, he also completed two post-graduate degrees in mental health as well as in trauma, grief and loss counselling.

In addition to Adam's 17 years of clinical experience and expertise as a mental health practitioner, he also specialises in community development and education, the promotion of mental health, prevention of mental illness and early intervention programs and approaches.
His other roles include project and event management, being a sessional lecturer, clinical educator and supervisor. His latest key project was being the creator and Festival Director of the Positive Mindset Creative Arts Festival, which promotes mental wellbeing and reduces the stigma of mental illness and addiction issues in young people through music, visual art, drama, dance and media art.

A member of Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA), Adam previously served several years as a Divisional Councillor in the Queensland Division until early 2015. He continues to be a strong advocate for the profession of occupational therapy and is currently the OTA’s 1st Alternate Delegate to the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).

Adam also sees a small number of clients (both children and adults) in his bulk billing private practice on some Saturday mornings at Sunnybank Medical Clinic, on Brisbane’s southside for low income individuals and families. He is recognised by Medicare to deliver focused psychological strategies under the Better Access initiative. He conducts home visits if required and can also deliver sessions via videoconferencing.
