Counsellor
I am a counsellor who has a Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) and currently work for Wide Bay Sexual Assault Service where I have been for the past 3 years. I have been working as a professional counsellor for 11 years in the areas of mental health, trauma, sexual assault and abuse, domestic violence, gambling addictions, relationship conflict, grief and loss, self-esteem and boundaries. My clients range from children through to adults and include both male and female. I have a passion to see people receive the help they choose to access as they journey through on their life path.
Wide Bay Sexual Assault Service (WBSAS) is a specialised counselling service for people who have been the victims of sexual abuse and assault. Wide Bay Sexual Assault Service has been a part of the Fraser Coast community for 24 years.
WBSAS is committed to the principles of access, equity and client centered interventions for Adults, Children and Young People who have experienced sexual abuse at some time in their lives.
Wide Bay Sexual Assault Service views sexual abuse as an act of violence and an abuse of power rather than a sexual act. It occurs as a result of power imbalance.
Sexual Assault is a crime of violence and is defined as any sexual behaviour which is carried out without the consent of, or against the wishes of the person to whom the assault is directed.
The right of the survivor is to regain control over their lives, and is regarded as the fundamental principle of our Service.
In keeping with client centered principles, the service perceives the client as an expert in their situation and a person who is competent and resourceful. This is acknowledged by counsellors who maintain a position of respectful curiosity about their clients and share a common understanding of power issues faced by the client groups in our society.
WBSAS aims to provide support and information to Adults, Children and Young People in a respectful environment where survivors become resilient.
Wide Bay Sexual Assault Service acknowledges that wide ranging structural changes (social, political, spiritual, economic and legal) are required to change the present culture of violence in our society.
